Luduvo

Superb engine and highly skilled developer team. However, these qualities do not make up for Luduvo's poor moderation, leadership, reputation, lack of transparency, and outstanding controversies involving every fiber of the platform from the CEO and staff team to the most obscure of 3d artists and contributors.

I’d be lying if I said Luduvo wasn’t one of the most promising new sandbox platforms to emerge in recent years. That said, my optimism comes with one major caveat.

I don’t think Luduvo is going to fizzle out anytime soon. They’ve already shown a level of transparency that, in my opinion, exceeds what most sandbox platforms have offered. From the conversations I’ve had with the CEO, he comes across as genuinely passionate, approachable, and committed to building something better.

My concern isn’t where Luduvo is today. It’s where they’ll be years from now.

Success changes companies. As they grow, they’ll face increasing pressure from investors, revenue goals, and scaling challenges. Right now, I don’t see any public commitment or long-term principles that explicitly hold the company accountable to the values they’re promoting today. My biggest fear is that they begin with good intentions but gradually compromise those ideals, eventually becoming Roblox with a better technical stack instead of becoming the platform many people have been waiting for.

I don’t want Roblox with better technology.

I want Roblox, but better.

Hopefully Luduvo has internal safeguards, company values, and decision-making processes that ensure they never lose sight of why people are excited about them in the first place.

I know some people criticize the company’s management, but I think a lot of that criticism lacks context. Luduvo is still an extremely young startup, and many of the people involved are learning as they go. From what I’ve seen, many of the controversies actually begin outside of management. Then, when management steps in to resolve the situation, they end up taking the blame anyway. It has become a recurring cycle.

One improvement I’d suggest is formalizing volunteer roles. Since Luduvo is an actual company, having proper contracts, confidentiality agreements, and clearer expectations for volunteers would likely prevent a significant amount of unnecessary drama.

Despite these issues, they’re very forgivable for a startup. As someone who has worked as a consultant, I’ve seen plenty of young companies make similar mistakes. These are growing pains, not necessarily signs of a broken company. Considering how young the team is, and the fact that I’m pretty sure the CEO is only 18, they’ve accomplished an impressive amount.

On the product side, there’s a lot to like.

The graphics look fantastic.

The upcoming Svelte website looks incredibly polished.

Most importantly, the studio actually looks pleasant to use, especially compared to Roblox and Polytoria.

At its best, Luduvo delivers on its vision and becomes the platform many developers have wanted for years. At its worst, it ends up as Roblox with a better technical foundation, which honestly is still an improvement over the status quo.

I’m hoping for the first outcome.

Luduvo caught my eye when I saw discourse around it online regarding it's anti AI policy, which is already a breath of fresh air in this space. I hope they don't become a super enclosed org like Roblox, but the CEO of the project is very vocal online and answers many concerns with Q&As, so I'm not too worried. The only downside is that it's in closed alpha right now so I can't test, but viewing the project from an outside lens of policies and plans, it's a beautiful and ambitious project.

Compelling website, super mobile-compatible, and unique design. Development is a bit slow but they only strive for perfection (fair enough)

The community is super friendly but is somewhat closed off and very niche.

Questionable moderation at times, but it is all done with the best intentions for the platform.

The platform itself is very well made, and probably one of the best looking sandboxes out there. If isolated to its website, studio, and client, Luduvo would have easily received a 5 star review. However, its management and leadership is best described as "Abysmal." Decisions are made without much input, and its evident they care very little about the team that made them who they are. There's a reason for the heavy association between this platform and countless drama.
